WSU researcher gets big grant

Barry Rosen of the Biochemistry Department in the School of Medicine has been awarded a $2.2 million MERIT Award by the National Institute of General Medial Sciences. His research involves the cellular uptake and detoxification of the poisonous heavy metal arsenic. Nearly a decade ago, Rosen identified the transport protein that brings arsenic into bacterial cells and the ways cells protect themselves from the toxic metal.
